Going to New Orleans
Thanks to the magic of automatic posting, this post should appear on my site while I’m on a plane to New Orleans. Or waiting at the airport for a delayed flight to New Orleans. I seem to attract thunderstorms while flying*. Thank goodness for Kindles. My last pre-Kindle delay was so long I finished the book I had with me, which was a 400-page history of the American Revolution. At least if we’re badly delayed this time, I’ll have 300 books with me.
* Attracting lightning—on purpose, that is—could be handy in the kind of situation in which my characters often find themselves. A Donovan water witch who can also call lightning? Could get messy, but could also explain a lot about his quirky character and will give him a way to deal with the bad guys in a decisive way. I’ve just solved a plot quandary in my WIP. Thanks for listening, guys.
But I digress, which my Samhain editor will assure you I do a lot. The point is I’m on vacation with my beloved Cat-Herder and our dear friends S&P. I’ll be doing some research for a future Duals and Donovans book while I’m down here—the Agency will be dabbling in some nasty voodoo, my friends—but mostly I’ll be doing research on other important topics, such as “does this author prefer Sazeracs or Hurricanes?”, “how many crayfish or oysters can one person eat at a sitting?”, “is it possible to get tired of jazz?” and “is a beignet really just a donut with a pretty name?”
There will be posts. There will be pictures. There will no doubt be crazy stories to share. And when we get back to Massachusetts, there will be a lot of salads to make up for all the rich goodies we’ll be eating in the Big Easy.
OK – answers to some important questions.
1. Sazeracs or Hurricanes? Neither.
2. Crayfish and oysters? All of them.
3. Jazz? No – you don’t ever get tired of it.
4. Beignet? More like fried dough than a donut. But yummy!
Sound about right? 🙂

Yes, that would be about right. My favorite New Orleans drinks were mint juleps, Abita beer, and those Swamp Lilies you discovered.
