The Year of Yes in Review: The Pictures
A lifetime ago, I started exploring photography. This was back in the day when photography meant film, and serious photography often meant black and white. I took a lot of pictures with my old Nikon. I even developed my own film.
And then I stopped. I think I felt unfaithful to writing by dabbling in another art form. I’m pretty sure there was some subtle discouragement from my ex, a talented photographer who’d let his own work slide as soon as other people started recognizing his talent. (The man had a few issues with his own creativity and self-esteem, and it ended up meaning we were poisonous for each other.) Oh, I still took snapshots with a simple “PhD” (Push Here Dummy) digital camera and occasionally realized some of them were damn good despite the limitations of the camera, but I didn’t think of it as anything important.
Then late last year my old camera died and I had gathered my courage and asked for a decent digital camera for Yule.
I think it was part of what made the Year of Yes possible.
So without further ado, I offer a few pictures of the year. They’re not all art, and they’re not in chronological order, but I think they encompass the adventures.
